Wadia Technical Bulletin, March 2001:
Up-sampling and Wadia Technology
Digital up-sampling has been getting a lot of attention recently, and for good reason:
up-sampling can provide tremendous sonic benefit. At Wadia we have been incorporating
patented, high-performance synchronous up-sampling systems into our CD Players and
Decoding Computers since 1988. We welcome the new attention being paid to up-sampling and
would like to explain the technology behind it.
Swift Current
This proprietary circuit performs the sonically critical
current-to-voltage conversion with no negative feedback, resulting in demonstrably
superior sound quality.
ClockLink
ClockLink is the most recent and effective jitter-reduction method in Wadia's
history. ClockLink effectively eliminates the most sonically damaging sources of
jitter from compact disc playback systems.
Digital Volume Control
The WADIA Volume Control was developed to take advantage of one of the most compelling
advantages of Compact Discs: digital audio signals can be processed without additive
losses and distortion that are inevitable in analog processing.
Direct-Connect Technology
Since 1992, Wadia has been developing and refining technology to take maximum advantage of
this rule. Direct-Connect system takes us one step closer to the ideal by
eliminating the need for a preamplifier in the audio chain.
Resolution Enhancement
Wadia's Resolution Enhancement System, as implemented in the Wadia Transports, improves
performance, raising the capability of Compact Disc playback another significant step. Wadia's Resolution Enhancement Systems uses carefully constructed dither, or random noise,
to improve digital-to-analog converter resolution, reduce correlated jitter, and increase
the "self-similar" nature of the signal, more closely matching the character of
live music.
