The
Special Edition Wadia 270se CD Transport - features a new and improved
mechanism that embodies markedly improved engineering precision on all surfaces, including
the surface onto which the disk is pressed. The
Special Edition Wadia 270se CD
Transport uses a newly-designed aluminum and brass hybrid turntable that provides
significant sound reduction during disk rotation. The turntable has been stained green to
absorb undesired diffused reflections. To
provide robust support for this newly developed turntable, the 270se uses a
composite bridge composed of machined aluminum with a maximum thickness of 20 mm, and
carbon-tool steel with a thickness of 5 mm. The results must be heard to be
beleived!
Why this obsession with detail? -- We know that the spirit of
music exists in fine textures, delicate phrasing, and subtle intonations. We know that
details can make the difference between an experience that takes your breath away and one
that does not. What defines a great performer, a brilliant composition, or a voice that
moves you to tears is in the details -- elusive, difficult to describe, but easy to hear.
For Example:
ClockLink.
This provides the most stable possible clock, when the 270se CD Transport is
paired with a Wadia 27ix Decoding Computer, by positioning the master oscillator
adjacent to the DAC chips rather than in the transport. It results in lower jitter and
better sonic performance than is possible in conventionally clocked systems.
VRDS Transport Mechanism --
The VRDS (Vibration-Free Rigid Disc-Clamping System) mechanism securely clamps the disk to a
high-mass turntable that has exactly the same diameter as the disk, and thoroughly
eliminates distortion and vibration of the disk itself and also unnecessary vibration of
the transport mechanism. The system gives only an extremely gentle slope (0.5 degrees) to
the surface on which the disk is pressed, thereby correcting disk curvature and
distortion. Based on a pickup that is finely adjusted to the same angle as the turntable
slope, alignment with the optical axis of the pickup enables pits to be read extremely
precisely. The relative optical-axis precision of the optical pickup and the disk pit
surface has been greatly improved, thereby greatly reducing disk-read errors. Also,
severely limiting unnecessary servo currents prevents problems such as jitter emission.
TCXO Output Clock --
When used without a ClockLink equipped DAC, the Wadia 270se CD Transport utilizes
an extremely stable Temperature-Compensated Oscillator (TCXO) output clock. The result is
remarkable performance from a conventional DAC.
Silent Power --
The Wadia 270se features the largest, quietest power supply ever in a single
chassis Wadia CD transport. The toriodal transformer uses triple-Faraday shields to
prevent high-frequency noise from passing between power supply sections. There are twelve
stages of separate regulation, including five sections of pre-regulation, each with high
capacitance filtering.
Vibration Control --
The Wadia 270se uses over thirty pounds of machined-aluminum brackets, clamps,
and chassis components to mechanically isolate critical electrical and mechanical parts.
In addition, a new damping material -- developed by Wadia -- is applied to
vibration-sensitive locations, such as the disc clamp and oscillators.
Resolution Enhancement --
The Wadia 270se Resolution Enhancement System produces a 24-bit signal using
Triangular Probability-Distribution Function (TPDF) dither. This signal can be decoded by
any 24-bit capable Decoding Computer. Resolution Enhancement improves DAC resolution,
reduces jitter, and offers a marked improvement in sonic quality.
Custom Optical Transmitters --
The Wadia 270se continues Wadia's pioneering use of glass fiber optic technology
for signal transmission. Wadia's proprietary glass-optical transmitter system is the first
ST-optical transmission format optimized for the shorter lengths required by
high-performance audio systems.
Transformer Isolation Chamber --
Enclosed in this sealed sub-chassis, sandwiched between layers of neoprene damping
material, the transformer is electrically, mechanically, and acoustically isolated from
other components.
Listening to the Wadia 270se CD Transport will move you further --
Openness of soundstage beyond the standard 270 CD Transport. Improved bass extension and
power. Images solidify with in three dimensional space. There is again an increase in
resolution with ambient cues coming to life. The Wadia 270se CD
Transport conveys the musical message of your recordings in way that can only be described
as real.
