Brian Damkroger, one of Stereophile magazines most experienced reviewers, recommended a Class A rating for the Wadia 830 CD player, saying it may be one of the best bargains in audio". In his review in the September 1999 issue, Damkroger's reaction confirms that Wadia has achieved the 830's intended design goal legendary Wadia sound at a lower price than previously available.
In his review, Damkroger made comparisons to cost-no-object CD playback systems costing many times more than the 830. After describing how the Wadia 830 is at least on par with such systems, he concluded by saying, "I'd strongly urge anyone considering a top-drawer CD system to audition the 830."
In addition, Damkroger compared the Wadia 830 to less expensive units costing around
$1500, concluding, "The 830 isn't just better than the best midpriced players, or
even lots better---it's fundamentally better", adding that the 830 will move your
system a profound step closer to the real thing.
